 If you are looking for a quiet place to spend the night or maybe a weekend, look no further than Alfonso's Loft Bed and Breakfast overlooking the historic Granbury, Texas square. Alfonso's Loft is an unhosted bed and breakfast in Granbury's quaint historic district.

The moment you enter this large suite, you are sure to feel the flavor and history of this historic building, built in 1886.

In the early years, Mr. Gordon, the original owner, was in the "wet goods" (saloon) business. One of the many fascinating stories concerning the building is the legend of John St. Helen (alias John Wilkes Boothe).

John St. Helen tended bar for Mr. Gordon and confessed on his death bed that he was really John Wilkes Boothe. St. Helen told Mr. Gordon where he had hidden the gun used in the assassination of President Lincoln. The Gordon family still has possession of this artifact.

Enter our bed and breakfast and you'll find a charming room, tastefully appointed, with a panoramic view of the bustling Historic Town Square, Alfonso's Loft offers a wonderful hideaway without getting too far from the amenities. Located on the southeast corner of the Square, right above the delightful Nutshell Eatery and Bakery, the room affords access to many fine restaurants and a fantastic array of shopping, all within walking distance.

Just next door is the Granbury Opera House, and other attractions for day and evening entertainment are not far away. Easy parking just outside of the private entrance to the Loft allows for great freedom in activities. Picture

Picture Alfonso's Loft bed and breakfast is available for $125 per night per couple, plus tax. This is surely a bargain for the class of accommodations and the tranquility our room offers.

Accommodations include a private entrance, a king-sized bed, period furniture, and a private bath. Four large windows give a panoramic view of Granbury's bustling historic Downtown Square. Observe the majestic Courthouse and ponder the rich history of the town. A full breakfast is also available downstairs in the restaurant. Ask for arrangements for special dinners, flowers, shows, and sight-seeing.

Dining

The Nutshell Eatery & Bakery, located on the historical Granbury town square, serves up just about as much history as it does mouth-watering baked goods made from all natural ingredients. A favorite of tourist and locals, the Nutshell offers tried and true menus that will definitely get your 'yum' approval.

The Nutshell Eatery and Bakery is a favorite stop for locals and tourists alike. A lot of folks, though, who enter the restaurant's front door for the first time, don't really realize what they're stepping into. The fact is, they're stepping into what the locals claim to be one of the oldest buildings on the square.

Aside from sugar-filled baked goodies, the menu includes hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, and several low-cal things you can wrap two hands around. The cold fare includes chicken and tuna salads and a great stuffed cantaloupe when in season. The Nutshell offers a full, tasty breakfast menu too.
